Hello, nice to meet you. 

My names is James MacNaughton and I founded Books by James LLC in May of 2023 after I decided to make the switch to full time business ownership. I was ready to step out on my own and service people my way, with high level ethics and professionalism. Prior to the switch, I was working as an operations manager for a Fort Collins, CO based restoration company and before that, as an Investigator and Chief Deputy for Larimer County Coroner’s Office from 2010-2020. Attention to detail and cleaning up other peoples messes are my thing. 

My career in bookkeeping began while managing the daily operations and finances for a restoration company. Everything from running payroll, inspecting and estimating job sites, managing inventory, bank accounts and cash flow were just some of my duties. We were using a remote bookkeeping company at the time and as I learned the basics of bookkeeping, my interest grew into a desire to become a certified bookkeeper. I am currently a Level 2 Intuit QuickBooks Certified Bookkeeper and an Elite ProAdvisor, both of which are the highest levels available. From there, I joined a company called the CFO Project and can now go beyond the basic Income Statements and Balance Sheets, and provide fractional style Cash Flow analysis and other CFO insights for business owners. My team and I help over 70 small to medium sized businesses, from a variety of industries, with their bookkeeping needs.

I value a personal touch, clear communication and responsiveness. As a business owner myself, I treat all clients as I would want to be treated. I have experience with multiple industries, accounting software and online banking systems. Outside of the office, I love to be in the mountains. Fishing, hiking, and snowboarding, are a few of my favorites. I also enjoy golf, working out and shooting. My wife Jessica and I have 3 children who keep us quite busy. They are currently involved in recreational and competitive Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, and Football teams.
